SEESMART

Protection as a design solution

With new outer shell technologies allowing us to create more stylish and tailored gear for the fashion-conscious urban rider, the bulkiness and rigidity of existing limb protectors used to form a serious limitation to our design freedom. Those days are in the past.

The secret ingredient: SEESMART ARMOR

To establish a casual look and feel, it’s not just about the general design of the product or the use of funky materials, but it’s predominantly about the silhouette. Insert a set of traditional knee protectors in a pair of motorcycle denim or an overshirt and you’ll instantly look like a biker. Plus, you definitely won’t feel the desire to walk around in them all day long.

The SEESMART limb protection family was developed in-house. They were engineered to perfection by our R&D team, tested and approved in our very own lab (link) and CE-certified by a renowned and independent test institute.

The SEESMART protectors are a family of super-thin, flexible, fully ventilated, CE-level 1 certified limb protectors, constructed of SEEFLEX2925; the same material we used for the award winning SEEFLEX family of protectors.

How the structure works

External expansion

As mentioned, the SEESMART family of protectors is constructed of the exact same material as our SEEFLEX protectors: SEEFLEX2925. We developed this revolutionary material compound - in-house - to provide the highest level of impact protection. Thanks to its unique molecular structure, SEEFLEX2925 has the ability to transform kinetic energy from an impact into thermal energy.

Internal expansion

SEESMART, however, works in a different way than SEEFLEX, thanks to its specially developed structure. Built on the internal expansion principle of its SEEFLEX siblings, SEESMART protectors also expand externally. The visible hexagon-shaped studs are linked by narrow connection bands. Thanks to this construction, it has a strong ability to take care of impact energy, while the armor itself remains extremely flexible and relatively thin. It’s the perfect protector designed for motorcycle equipment that allows you to integrate seamlessly into daily life off the bike.

Comfort: seamlessly following your anatomy

Extremely flexible, SEESMART protectors are virtually unnoticeable when riding despite being up to the task of protecting you in case of an unfortunate mishap. Thanks to their flexible characteristics, these protectors sit close to your body following your anatomy. It allows for better-fitting, more comfortable silhouettes for motorcycle gear, making sure you can look effortlessly stylish in items from our Tailored Technology collection.

Proof of protection ce-certified

SEESMART protectors are certified under the EN1621-1:2012 standard for limb protection. The entire family of SEESMART protectors are CE-Level 1 certified. Below you will find the basics behind the test procedure to get an idea what goes behind passing the strict norm in order to achieve certification.

Energy transmission test

In order to achieve the CE-certification, protectors need to undergo the Energy Transmission Test, which measures the amount of force that is allowed to pass through the protector after impact.

In all tests, the protector is placed on an anvil after which it gets hit with a drop striker weighing 5 kilograms (11 lbs.) that falls from approximately one meter, this to make sure the kinetic impact energy is at least 50J. As the primary goal of a protector is to prevent energy from passing through, the lower the value of energy transmission measured the better the shock absorption of the protector.

In order to pass the test, energy transmission is calculated according to two mandatory impact tests:

Ambient impact test

No less than three protectors get tested in three different, predetermined “zones of protection” for the ambient impact test, making it a grand total of nine impacts before the ambient impact test is completed. Before testing, the protectors are conditioned by putting them 48 ± 0.5 hours in an atmosphere of 23 ± 2 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 50 ± 5%. The ambient impact test needs to be performed within three minutes after removing the protector from their conditioned environment.

Wet impact test

In this test, two protectors get tested on the aforementioned three zones of protection, the difference is in the conditioning of the protectors. They are put in a closed chamber above water for 72 ± 0.5 hours, maintained at a temperature of 70 ± 2 degrees Celsius. After this, they are placed in a tightly closed, water vapor proof bag in ambient temperature of 23 ± 2 degrees. After removing the protectors from conditioning, the wet impact test is performed within five minutes.

High and low temperature impact tests

In addition to the mandatory impact tests, there are two optional tests for the protectors; the High (T+) and Low (T-) Temperature Impact Tests.

CE-Marking

SEESMART protectors come in two variants. The most flexible variant, found in our denim collection and overshirts, are CE-level 1 certified but only in hot conditions (T+), which means they perform according to the CE-level 1 standard up to +40 degrees Celsius. Keep in mind that most traditional CE-level 1 protectors do not pass the test at high temperatures, so you will not find the T+ sign on the label.

The slightly more rigid and pre-shaped version of the SEESMART limb protection range that is included in most of our fashionable leather jackets, summer sports and touring jackets is CE-level 1 certified for all conditions, hence the T+ and T- marking on the label. The T- sign means that it performs within the standard of level 1 even in cold conditions as low as -10 Celsius.

The SEESMART family

Our SEESMART limb protectors are designed with the everyday rider in mind. They’re protective, comfortable, come with equipped with unique ventilation properties and, most of all, ensure the desired silhouette we’re aiming for in our Tailored Technology collection.

We only have one problem with the SEESMART family… Some people have a hard time believing that something so thin and flexible is a potent piece of protection. When you try out one of our overshirts or jeans at your local dealer, you probably won’t notice that the armor is already inside.

This makes many consumers doubt whether these miracle workers can actually do the trick. Rest assured; yes, they will. They have the same – if not better – energy absorption capacity as the traditional hard and clunky limb protectors from the past.
